PortfolioPilot: Review

PortfolioPilot is one of the best free tools I’ve found to add to my financial tech stack. It helps me track my investments, analyze my portfolio from a macroeconomic perspective, and review suggestions to improve my portfolio that I wouldn’t have thought of otherwise. In this PortfolioPilot review, I’ll share its key features and my thoughts after using the platform for the past month.

PortfolioPilot Overview

PortfolioPilot is a free, cutting-edge portfolio management platform that helps investors make better investment decisions with data and insights typically accessible to institutional investors. With its advanced algorithms and intuitive user interface, PortfolioPilot makes it easy for investors to manage their investments and track their portfolio performance.

PortfolioPilot was created by Global Predictions, an innovative company that uses data from various sources like public health data and macroeconomic trends to provide unbiased forecasts using machine learning and economic modeling.

The company was founded by Alexander Harmsen, an experienced tech entrepreneur, and Reid Hartman, an experienced investor who has worked in portfolio oversight at Bridgewater Associates and True Signal. The company is backed by an expert team in finance, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and economic modeling.

Some of the key features of PortfolioPilot include portfolio analysis, personalized recommendations, and investment research.

Key Features

Portfolio Analysis
One of the standout features of PortfolioPilot is its portfolio analysis tool. This tool provides investors with a comprehensive view of their portfolio, including their holdings, performance, and risk and provides a Portfolio Score that is personalized based on your portfolio.

By easily importing your external accounts to PortfolioPilot using its secured connections with Plaid, SnapTrade, and Yodlee, your portfolio is aggregated and analyzed for free! The platform is read-only, so no trades are made on your behalf.

What sets the tool apart from others is that it is built on their proprietary macroeconomic engine that combs through millions of macroeconomic relations to automatically generate recommendations and insights to help investors improve their overall net worth.

Dashboard Visualization
Another key feature of the platform is its dashboard feature. The dashboard shows the investor’s net worth, Portfolio Score, forecasted returns (12-month), portfolio returns over the last 30 days, and portfolio exposure by country, sector, and holdings.

The dashboard aggregates all your account holdings and analyzes it into a comprehensive view and shares AI-driven suggestions on how to improve your portfolio to account for risk.

Risk Management
Risk management is another important feature of PortfolioPilot. The platform automatically provides investors a risk assessment on their portfolio from factors like inflation drivers, country exposure, sector risk, and credit risk. This feature helps investors understand the risks associated with their investments and make informed decisions about their portfolio.

PortfolioPilot takes it even further by providing recommendations or suggestions based on the individual investor’s preferences using AI.

Economy Exploration
Investment research is also an important aspect of PortfolioPilot. Using its Economy Exploration feature, PortfolioPilot provides investors with access to market forecasts across sectors, asset classes, and countries. The company recently announced PortfolioPilot Insights, a personalized feed of essential insights that highlight what is happening in the world and how it can impact your investments.

This information can help investors stay informed about market trends with up-to-date information that was synthesized by the company in an easy-to-read format. The information is updated weekly and is shared through the platform’s Insight Feed or through weekly email subscription.

My Thoughts

The platform itself is the first of its kind to offer this type of personalized assessment to the everyday investor. The company recently launched PortfolioPilot in order to reach the individual investor community.

Global Insights offers this platform for free and does not sell any data to third parties. Global Insights generates revenue from professional services and software sales to financial institutions, wealth managers, and other professionals and organizations. PortfolioPilot doesn’t have access to trade on the investor’s behalf either so it cannot generate revenue from trading. By linking accounts to the platform, PortfolioPilot only gains read-only access to analyze each account’s holdings.

With this product being so new, I’m excited to see what comes next. The founders are very open to feedback on ways to improve the product and I’m impressed with how receptive they’ve been. The company is currently working on additional enhancements to improve the overall look and functionality of the platform.

One of the upcoming features that’s currently in beta testing that I’m looking forward to is its tax-loss harvesting tool.

Tax-loss harvesting is a strategy to reallocate your portfolio by selling certain securities at a loss to offset the amount of capital gains tax owed from selling profitable assets. This strategy is commonly used to reallocate your portfolio and to limit short-term capital gains tax, which is taxed higher than long-term capital gains. The tool will be designed to estimate your current tax burden, but also, to provide recommendations for tax-loss harvesting.

Final Words

Overall, PortfolioPilot is an impressive portfolio management software that can help individual investors manage their investments more effectively. Its range of features, including portfolio analysis, data visualization, risk management, and investment research, makes it a valuable free tool for any investor to include in their tech stack.

Whether you are a seasoned investor or just starting, PortfolioPilot is a must-have tool for any investor looking to manage their portfolio more effectively.
